Questions & Answers

What is Diploma Connect?

Diploma Connect is a program for adults who have not yet earned their high school diplomas. Located in PPL's Career Center, our dedicated staff are here to help you move forward with your career by first completing your high school diploma and then connecting you with the resources and training you need to continue into your desired career.

What is an Adult High School Diploma?

The Adult Diploma is a high school diploma issued by the State of Minnesota to anyone over the age of 19 who shows mastery of the College and Career Readiness state standards. PPL's Diploma Connect program offers everything you need to complete this diploma option. It is ideal for students who have attended high school in the past 5 years, have earned some high school credit, and/or have already passed some of their GED subject tests.

What's the difference between the Adult Diploma and the GED?

The GED is a series of 4 tests you need to pass in order to get your high school equivalency, which then qualifies you to access programs that require a high school diploma. The Adult Diploma can be earned through different activities, including GED tests, but does not rely only on testing. It also involves career readiness and digital literacy training to get you ready for your future career.

Do any of my high school credits or GED tests count toward the Adult Diploma?

Yes! Most of your high school credits and all of your GED passing scores will count. The Adult Diploma requires you to show competency in the 4 core subject areas: Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science, plus career readiness and digital literacy skills. Traditional high school electives are not required for an Adult Diploma but may fulfill some of the requirements.

Where do classes happen?

Our classroom and office spaces are located in the PPL Career Center at 1021 East Franklin in Minneapolis, but we offer classes online as well. The PPL Career Center is also where our Career Pathways training classes take place, so you will have a lot of exposure to possible careers and next steps. As a participant in Diploma Connect, you will have access to our career specialists and can start planning for your career goals. You can even enroll in a Career Pathways class as you finish up your diploma!

What if I work and can't come to school every day?

You don't need to be here every day, or even at specific times. We offer a "blended learning" approach that is a combination of online and in-person learning. For meetings with your teacher/advisor, we can work around your schedule, including virtual meetings. We'll do our best to make our schedules work around yours!

How old can I be?

Let's talk! We focus on younger adults because it is easier for us to transfer their credits into this program and because it is easier for them to "jump back into school," but we can take adults of any age if they have their high school transcripts or have passed some of their GED subject tests. Fill out the information form or give us a call; we are happy to talk through your options and help you determine the right path.

What are classes like?

Diploma Connect takes a student-centered approach where young people determine their own ways of learning. This might be in-person, online, or a combination of both. In-person meeting times are based on your schedule, and the courses offered are based on your needs.

How big is the program?

We have a very small program with two teachers/advisors, which allows us to get to know each participant's interests and strengths. As we build these relationships, we can help guide each person through the challenges they might encounter on their journey toward a diploma and a future career.

What if I went to a lot of different high schools?

That's okay! We'll get all your transcripts and let you know what else needs to happen.

What if I can't get to your location because I don't have a car?

We can provide bus passes to help you get to your education and your job!
