Minneapolis, Minn (April 09, 2025) - Project for Pride in Living (PPL) hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration to highlight the new housing community, Union Park Flats, in St. Louis Park. This new development offers 60 new affordable rental homes for families and individuals near convenient transit options. The event was co-hosted by Union Congregational Church, which partnered with PPL to create Union Park Flats, and included tours, remarks, and a reception in the property’s new community room.
“Union Park Flats is a new community with affordable rents for 60 families that began as a dream,” said Karla Henderson, President and CEO of PPL. “In 2018, the previous owners of the land, our next-door neighbor Union Congregational Church - with a small but strong congregation - wanted to find a way to stay afloat AND further their mission. After much discussion, the congregation made the decision to sell off this parcel of land and have it used for affordable housing,” Henderson said.
Union Park Flats, in partnership with Project for Pride in Living and Union Congregational Church, is available to those with income limits ranging from 30% of the area median to 60% of the area median. The majority of the units have been set aside for households with incomes less than 50% of the area median. The new units also meet St. Louis Park’s green building code. Amenities include first-floor balconies and patios, shared green space, a community room, and on-site property management.
Seventy-five percent of the units in the building are sized for families: 30 two-bedrooms, 10 three-bedrooms and 5 four-bedrooms, with 15 smaller units (one-bedrooms and studios) for very small families, couples, and singles. Within these 15 smaller units, Union Park Flats has set aside 13 units for single adults with disabilities, with supportive services to be provided by PPL’s Resident Services team. All 60 units are leased up by new PPL residents with the supportive housing units taken within the first 17 days of application time.
PPL also worked with Landon Group; Ballard Spahr; Guaranty Commercial Title; the architects at Urbanworks; construction partner, Watson-Forsberg; funders included Minnesota Housing, Hennepin County, St. Louis Park, Metropolitan Council, and Merchants Capital.
Speakers at the event included Karla Henderson, PPL’s President and CEO; Mary Lee Pratt, committee member of Union Congregational Church; Paul Baudhuin, St. Louis Park Councilmember; Marion Greene, Hennepin County Commissioner; Rinal Ray, Assistant Commissioner at Minnesota Housing; Anjuli Cameron, Met Council member; Marsha Goff, Executive Vice President at Merchants Capital; and Lawanda Rogness, project manager at PPL.
