Phlebotomy

Begin your career as a Phlebotomist! The 10-week Phlebotomy program will train you to draw blood and work in the medical field through hands on training with PPL and North Hennepin Community College. During the program, participants will engage in a 100-hour clinical experience with Allina Health or M Health Fairview to prepare for the ASCP Board Exam and a future career in Phlebotomy.

The Phlebotomy training program is designed to prepare you for an in-demand position finding rewarding work at both hospitals and clinics! During this 3 month long training, you will have the opportunity to refine your transferrable skills, network with nearby employers, and gain clinical experience to prepare you in roles of Phlebotomist or Laboratory Technician. 

What is phlebotomy and how will the program prepare you for a long-term career?

As a Phlebotomist you will be working closely with patients providing excellent customer service as you collect blood for testing purposes.

  • Collect blood for donation or for testing, so the blood can be analyzed in a clinical laboratory
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly sanitized before it is used to collect specimen
  • Accurately label and properly store samples, reducing cross-contamination and inaccurate test results

PPL’s program will include over 100 classroom hours to prepare you with technical skills and confidence as you enter the workforce.

What certifications will I earn?

During the training program you will have the opportunity to earn the National Retail Federation Customer Service certification, as well as, preparation for the ASCP BOC (certification). The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) is recognized across the United States and provides a great start to career laddering opportunities! The ASCP BOC is offered after successful completion from the program and is FREE to graduates.

What other opportunities are included?

As a program participant you will have the opportunity to learn more about your Strengths and how they can be utilized in the workplace, with instruction provided by a Certified Strengths Finders Coach. Learn about our employer partners through presentations, mock interviews, and networking events. Also, gain hands-on experience at M Health Fairview or Allina, working with real patients and drawing blood over the course of an immersive 3-week clinical experience.

Learn how to draw blood and work in the medical field as a Phlebotomist. MN Health Fairview are excited to partner and provide this fantastic start to the medical field. No work experience is needed to enroll in this training program as you will learn the skills through practice blood draws and 3 weeks of in person instructed weeks after your online courses with PPL. 

Qualifications for Participation

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legal to work in the U.S.
  • Proficient math and reading skills
  • Vaccinations
